Delta Air Lines releases Climate Lobbying Report

Seçtiklerimiz

Delta Air Lines has released its Climate Lobbying Report detailing the company’s global advocacy activities and policy engagements — both direct and indirect — that support and complement its Paris Agreement-aligned climate goals.

The report underscores Delta’s commitment to being a positive voice on climate policy issues now and in the future. It was prepared at the direction of Delta’s board of directors in response to a proposal that received shareholder support at Delta’s 2021 annual meeting.

The report describes the company’s current climate goals; its governance structure for monitoring and assessing progress; its foundational climate policy principles; and climate lobbying activities conducted over the last year, including by trade associations.

It also analyzes areas of potential misalignment between the company’s climate goals and trade association lobbying activities and demonstrates a commitment to drive constructive change that advances those goals.

“Transparency is a core tenet of our ESG efforts, and we appreciate our investors’ interest in our climate goals and efforts to advance them.

As a hard-to-abate sector, we are proud of the work that we have done to drive forward policy change and are continuing to look for opportunities that will help us reach our ambitious net-zero goals,” said Peter Carter, Delta’s Chief Legal Officer.

“Effective policy engagement is critical to accelerating the new markets, coalitions and technologies needed to decarbonize aviation and address the climate challenge.”

The report also transparently addresses direct and indirect climate lobbying activities associated with Delta’s Monroe Energy subsidiary, which operates the Trainer Refinery – the only refinery owned by an airline globally.

This provides a window into the range of economic policy and ESG considerations impacting the fossil fuel sector’s transition toward more renewable fuel solutions, which will be essential to advancement of Delta’s net-zero goals.

This spring, Delta plans to release its 2021 ESG report, which will contain more information on Delta’s climate strategy and path toward decarbonization. Policy engagement will continue to shape how Delta advances toward its climate goals and a more sustainable future.
