Britain has decided to build a US$19.8 billion third runway at Heathrow airport.
The third runway will ease congestion at one of the world’s busiest airports.
On the announcement of the runway, UK Government Transport Minister Geoff Hoon also told parliament he would approve construction of an extra terminal.
Mr Hoon said a new terminal would be necessary as Heathrow was already running at 99 per cent capacity.
It is less than a year since Heathrow opened its fifth terminal after much delay caused by demonstrators against the addition.
Heathrow handles 65 million passengers a year.
