Philippine Airlines Launches ‘Fly With Her’ Program to Empower Aspiring Female Pilots
Philippine Airlines (PAL) has announced the launch of its ‘Fly With Her’ program, pledging ₱10 million (approximately $175,000) to support aspiring female pilots. This initiative aims to address the gender gap in aviation, where women currently represent only about 6% of the global pilot workforce.
Scholarship Details
-
Funding Allocation: The pledged amount will be awarded to four deserving female cadet pilots, with each receiving ₱2.5 million (approximately $44,000) to assist with their aviation training.
-
Administration: The scholarships will be managed by the PAL Foundation, ensuring that the funds are directly allocated to the designated partner flight schools to partially cover tuition fees.
Additional Initiatives
In conjunction with the scholarship program, PAL plans to release a film inspired by the true story of a young girl’s aspiration to become a pilot. This endeavor aims to inspire and encourage more women to pursue careers in aviation.
Statements from PAL Leadership
-
Alvin M. Miranda, PAL Vice President for Marketing: “As we celebrate International Women’s Day, we reiterate our support to women who dream of flying for and even assuming top positions in the PAL organization.”
-
Lilybeth T. Ng, PAL Assistant Vice President for Pilot Affairs: “When little girls see women take on leadership roles, it inspires them to do the same and possibly go beyond.”
Current Representation
Currently, over 80 female pilots are part of PAL’s roster, accounting for approximately 9% of its pilot workforce.
